Frequently Asked Questions About Working with Golden Lotus Lactation
-
I offer consultations in-home, at birthing facilities, and virtually. Prenatal consultations (3rd trimester) are personalized encounters aimed at helping you prepare for baby’s arrival. Post-partum consultations include a comprehensive feeding evaluation with your baby. Together we will work on latching, positioning, at-breast milk transfer, maternal milk supply, pumping, infant weight analysis, and more. We will develop a feeding plan that works for your family. Many families continue with follow-up visits while they are working toward their goals.

Self-Pay is always an option. Please review my FEE SCHEDULE. If I am out-of-network, I will provide you with a Superbill to submit to insurance. Please note that reimbursement is not guaranteed.

No. My FEE SCHEDULE is per visit. A typical visit is at least 60 minutes, but can last up to 90 minutes depending on the circumstances. I will never charge you more than the agreed upon fee.

That depends on your plan. First you will need to confirm that I am in your network (see CONFIRM COVERAGE). Many plans that cover my services include 6 visits. I have never seen less than 3 visits covered. There is never copay.

All post-partum home visits start with an infant weight check, using my medical-grade pediatric scale. I will ask for your baby’s weight history so that I can track their weight gain/ loss patterns.
If you are breastfeeding/ chest feeding, I will then weigh your baby a 2nd time using grams as a unit of measure. We will weigh the baby again after feeding to determine how much milk was transferred. This will help us develop a feeding plan.
I will observe a full feeding to assess both baby’s feeding skills and parent’s technique. I will assess milk supply to determine if it is meeting baby’s current needs.
If you are pumping, I will check flange size and demonstrate how to use your pump for maximum effectiveness.
In the end, we will develop an individualized feeding plan that works for your family.
My After-Visit Report will be available to you via my online medical charting platform. It will include my assessments, your individualized feeding plan, and additional resources to assist you in working toward your goals in between our visits.

Both are important and highly recommended for expecting parents who plan to breastfeed or are considering it. Here’s the difference:
Prenatal Breastfeeding Consultation: This is a private (1-on-1) encounter with an IBCLC. If you have insurance coverage for lactation support, this visit is 100% covered. It includes a review of your personal health history and your birthing plan, so that you can learn how these things can impact your breastfeeding/ chest feeding journey. It also includes a “breastfeeding basics” class, covering topics like milk production, newborn feeding norms.
Prenatal Breastfeeding Class: This is typically group instruction. If there is a fee for the class, it will not be covered by insurance. Group classes are a fantastic way to prepare for breastfeeding/ chest feeding, but they do not include any personalized care.

Yes, by all means PLEASE include your partner or support person at our visits! Studies have shown that you are more likely to meet your breastfeeding goals with partner support. The more informed they are, the better they can support you!
-
Yes. I have a medical grade pediatric scale, which I will bring to all postpartum visits. Each visit starts with an infant weight check, as this is a crucial part of feeding evaluation. The scale is also used to measure at-breast milk-intake during your visit.
-
If you are doing a combination of breastfeeding and formula feeding, on-going lactation support is crucial to help you determine how much milk baby may be transferring at breast. This will help you anticipate how much supplementation your baby may need. This can change over time. Plan to have ongoing lactation support to periodically check how much milk baby is transferring at the breast and ensure consistent weight gain.
